New Bachelor study programme “Engineering and Economics” starting in Winter semester 2009/2010

The Department of Electrical Engineering and the Department of Mechanical and Process Engineering at Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences are jointly offering new courses of study in industrial engineering, with the option of either specialising in electro-technology or production management and logistics.

Course outlines:

• Bachelor of Science
• 7 semesters including a practical semester
• Approx. 60% engineering and 40% business management
• Anticipated number of students: 60
• Course start: From WS 2009/ 2010

The basics of mathematical-natural science, engineering science and business management are taught in the first two semesters. As from the third semester, a choice is made between either heavy engineering or electro-technology. The fifth semester is a practical semester. In the sixth and seventh semester, the focal point of the studies chosen beforehand is expanded and extended with options from the range of subjects offered jointly by both faculties, plus in-depth treatment of business management subjects (and not forgetting the thesis in the seventh semester).

The course combines technical and business management skills with an emphasis on practical applications. The technical part of the studies is oriented towards electro-technology and heavy engineering in line with the central significance of these specialist fields for modern products and services.

The high ratio of placements and exercises on the Bachelor course ensures a practical reference in the engineering training. Self-sufficient work is encouraged by projects and the practical semester on placement in a business at home or abroad. The thesis is generally written in or with business enterprises. The course aims to prepare students to work independently in industrial companies.

Professional fields of an industrial engineer:

The profile of an industrial engineer (m/f) is as varied as the fields of deployment. The Industrial Engineering Bachelor course aims to provide comprehensive training in the fundamentals of the subject, one which will enable graduates to work as industrial engineers in these diverse fields.

Graduates generally prefer to work in sales, production management, logistics, research and development. However, industrial engineers also find work in accounting and controlling, marketing, corporate consulting and general management.
