Three best pieces of practical work awarded the Ferchau sponsorship prize worth 1,500 Euro

(sf) Seven students of the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Process Engineering at Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences were awarded the Ferchau sponsorship prize on 30th October 2009 for their outstanding project work. Uwe Roll, head of the Ferchau branch in Düsseldorf, and Desiree Bruver-Leske, personnel officer, handed over the prizes to the winners in the company's offices in Düsseldorf.
The sponsorship prizes for up-and-coming engineers were awarded in a competition for the best work in the "Placement Design / CAD III" seminar under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Bernhard Siemon and were aimed at student teams in the fourth semester.
The award was assessed under criteria of documentation, calculation as well as draft design, part drawings, piece lists and execution. Soft skills, such as team work and compliance with time schedules, were also considered in assessing the practical work.
First prize, worth 600 Euro, was won by Viktor Scheibel and Dmytro Dombrovskyy. The duo performed a hazard analysis in their practical work. An assembly device was furthermore included in the execution with a good weld seam construction. Extensive documentation, including detailed calculations, rounded their work off. Second place went to Erich Müller, Denuiz Krüger and Dimitri Ponukarin. The team won prize money of € 500 for its impressive project work and meaningful drawings. Third place was awarded to Stefan Jahr and Nicolas Brungert. Alongside an excellent evaluation of risk, these two also included a video in their work. The company awarded 400 Euro to this work.
"We're delighted that one of the biggest providers of engineering services in Germany has awarded prizes for our students' work for the third time now. It's a constant motivation for the students, whilst simultaneously giving the chance to become constructively engrossed in practical projects", declared the prorector Prof. Dr. Andreas Jahr.
Ferchau Engineering plans to continue awarding prizes to students at Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences in future for their outstanding work: "We're not going to change that even in economically difficult times. If we don't support the future generation now, that will have negative effects over the long term", believes Mr Roll.
