Forward-looking project: Welcome to the world of technology! D UAS and the 6th Day of Technology

(mk) Two nationwide "Days of Technology" were held for the sixth time now on 19th and 20th June with numerous presentations and workshops. In Düsseldorf, too, the Chamber Of Trade was again turned into a giant research laboratory. Initiated by various societies, associations and institutions as a joint initiative, Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences has co-organised the events in Düsseldorf for a number of years now. A large delegation of professors, scientific staff and students at the Faculties of Electro-technology and of Heavy Engineering and Process Technology encouraged numerous pupils to take up technical studies in a gripping and entertaining manner with exhibits and experiments.
Apart from the Twike, which the Institute for Environment Measurement Technology uses to perform its measurements, graduate engineers Günther van Haren and Christian Fischer were able to present a brand new exhibit this year with one of two measuring bicycles: "A small computer, which is connected to a camera and a GPS receiver, can thus extend our measurements to take in green areas and places well removed from major roads", is how Christian Fischer explained the benefits of the bicycle.
Visitors to the stand of Prof. Dr. Frank Kameier and his team from the Laboratory for Flow Engineering found out how spectacular physics can be. An open wind tunnel allowed the young visitors to not only gauge the wind speed, but to also experience for themselves its strength at up to 50 km/h. Lively insights into welding technology were promised by the demonstrations on friction welding held by Prof. Dr. Bernhard Leuschen and graduate engineer Karl-Rainer Meis. This was not just a hands-on show, but also aimed to arouse interest in the university's collaboration with DVS and the option of obtaining the additional qualification as a specialist welding engineer.
And those who, in conclusion, felt the need tell their friends all over the world about the exciting projects, were able to do so through "Ego Secundus". This is a remote technology whose method of functioning was explained in detail by Prof. Dr. Reinhard Langmann and Norbert Stuhrmann (Dipl.-Ing.) from Düsseldorf's Telelabor.
Well-known broadcaster Armin Maiwald, who has inspired young and not so young TV viewers in Germany alike for the last thirty years with his "Remarkable but true stories" in the children's science programme "Broadcast with the mouse", and who was patron to this year's Day of Technology, was also pleased with the positive feedback: "The exhibits don't try to lecture or teach, but rather present hands-on technology to try out. And those who think that they might like to work with technology one day can find out about training or studies on-the-spot ".
