Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences starts off on a research expedition in the Antarctic (sf) The Laboratory for Environmental Measurement Engineering headed by Prof. Dr. Konradin Weber at the Faculty of Heavy Engineering and Process Technology has set off on a research expedition to Deception Island off the Antarctic Peninsula. The expedition aims to investigate the emissions of the Deception volcano. Christian Fischer from Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences (D UAS) will research the volcano for five weeks in an international team together with Spanish and Japanese scientists. He will be deploying the latest laser measurement systems available to the Laboratory for Environmental Measurement Engineering in order to determine the dusts and noxious gases emitted – such as carbon dioxide (CO2) and hydrogen sulphide (H2S) – in order to gain indications of the volcano's activity and to determine rates of emission. |
