Peter-Michael Engel Foundation sponsors students

(sf) The Rector Prof. Dr. Hans-Joachim Krause and the President-designate Prof. Dr. Brigitte Grass received good news for students of Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences on the evening of 9th September 2009. In the course of the ceremonial illumination of the Regierungsschlösschen (the small government palace) by the Peter-Michael Engel Foundation, its director, Peter-Michael Engel, outlined how sponsorship funds would be used this year: And these will go to D UAS. In practice, this means that in future there will not only be the Peter-Michael Engel promotional prize of 10,000 Euro for exceptional research work, but four outstanding Master graduates will also be sponsored with 4,000 Euro each per annum.
"We want the sponsorship programme to provide an incentive for students to come to Düsseldorf. The city is not only attractive and lively, but at the same time also a university centre. We particularly want to support Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences and its students in view of its application-oriented approach and its local involvement", said Mr Engel.
"We, as a university, make every effort to obtain additional funds for our students, which is why we're delighted with the Foundation", declared Prof. Dr. Hans-Joachim Krause. The Rector believed that the grants are an expression of identification with the city and the region, and at the same time are recognition of the quality of the research and teaching at Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences. Deliberations on the possible prize winners are to commence shortly.
Some 50 guests from politics (including the president of the district government, Jürgen Büssow, and the chairwoman of Düsseldorf Council's FDP wing, Dr. Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann), business and culture attended the luminescent event. The reason was that the Peter-Michael Engel Foundation had arranged for a further outstanding building in Düsseldorf to be "placed in the right light" with the Regierungsschlösschen on Cecilienallee. Its purpose is to promote science, research and culture in our city. Following the restoration of the Church of the Resurrection in Oberkassel likewise supported by the Peter-Michael Engel Foundation and lighting up the main gateway to the former Theresien Hospital, the illumination of the Regierungsschlösschen sets another accent of light in Düsseldorf.
