UAS journal "JVRB" launches its own micro blog for the "International Open Access Week"
(sf) "Open access to knowledge and information from publicly sponsored research" is the subject to be tackled at various places and events around the world during the "International Open Access Week" from 19th to 23rd October 2009.
As one of eight e-Journals founded by the DiPP NRW Initiative (Digital Peer Publishing NRW) back in 2004, the open access "Journal of Virtual Reality and Broadcasting" (JVRB) published at Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences is in the vanguard of open access publishing. In the meantime, the journal and its authors and readers can look back upon an impressive and freely accessible archive of issues. JVRB will celebrate the fifth anniversary of its first publication in December.
Yet it is not just a case of publishing research articles - the open access movement also aims to promote the exchange of knowledge and networking of experts. This includes trying out new forms of communication in the field of science. In order to encourage communication and exchanges between scientists and academics, JVRB has now set up its own micro blog on Twitter (www.twitter.com/jvrb_org) to announce new articles, news and events.
The Open Access Week is the follow-up event to the International Open Access Day on 14th October 2008. Some 130 organisations in 30 countries signed up for open access at that time.
The event is organised by SPARC (Scholarly Publishing & Academic Resources Coalition), PloS (Public Library of Science), Students for Free Culture, OASIS (Open Access Scholarly Information Sourcebook) and eIFL.net (Electronic Information for Libraries).
