Fuensanta Nieto to be the Peter Behrens guest professor for the Winter semester 2009/10

Students on the Master course of architecture at Peter Behrens School of Architecture (Düsseldorf UAS's Department of Architecture) can even now look forward to the Winter semester 2009/10 with excitement. The position of international guest professor has once again attracted a prominent name: Fuensanta Nieto is to oversee the Master class.

The Spanish architect studied at Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura Madrid and at GSAP Columbia University New York. She has headed the Nieto Sobejano Arquitectos office based in Madrid and Berlin together with Enrique Sobejano since 1983. This office has become established as one of the most highly regarded representatives in the current Spanish architectural scene. Nieto co-published the "Arquitectura" journal from 1986 to 1991. Her prize-winning work has been published in numerous journals and shown in exhibitions and at festivals, among which several times at the Biennale in Venice, the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Kunsthalle in Graz. Apart from her artistic-design work, Nieto can furthermore look back upon a number of teaching assignments and guest lectureships at renowned faculties of architecture, the latest of these being Universidad Europea de Madrid and Berlin University of Art.

The works of Nieto/Sobejano are characterised by unusual, fascinating spatial structures and a succinct language of form, which take up the historical significance of the surroundings and rework these as art. In this way, the forms of the past are brought together with those of the present in a marked and multi-facetted manner. Her trademark is reduced design which works with simple, yet high quality materials. Her more recent projects include a congress centre for the Expo 2008 in Saragossa, the exhibition building for the ruined Middle-age town of Madinat al-Zahra near Córdoba, the extension of the state museum Joanneum Graz and an annex for the Moritzburg Museum in Halle/Saale.
