NRW grant programme supports students with 300 Euro per month

Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences is participating in a programme of grants initiated by the North Rhine-Westphalia State Ministry for Innovation, Science, Research and Technology for the Winter semester 2009/2010. Motivated, hard-working students on Bachelor courses can obtain sponsorships of 300 Euro per month. The grants are financed to the half by private companies from business or foundations and to the half by the state of North Rhine-Westphalia.

Candidates for sponsorship are those beginning their studies and students in higher semesters who must fulfil the following conditions:

- First-time studies on a Bachelor course

- Average mark for university matriculation of 2.3 or better

- Students who are already registered must have performed all the study work required by the regular course and may be in their fourth semester at maximum at the time the grant starts. The study work performed up to this date is the criterion for these students.

- No benefits drawn from other grant programmes.

We shall apply particular personal commitment as an additional criterion, for example in university committees, politics, culture, social matters, sport or science.

Each grant amounts to 300 Euro per month and is paid for at least two semesters up to a maximum of the complete regular study time depending on the intended duration of granting by the donators. If those receiving grants also draw the BAföG subsidy, the percentage from private sponsors will be offset against the personal allowance, although this generally does not lead to a deduction. The percentage from the state of North Rhine-Westphalia is completely exempt from offsetting.

Candidates for grants who fulfil the foregoing criteria can apply for a grant in writing, no particular form is required. Applications should be marked "NRW Grant Programme" and sent with an informative letter of application, curriculum vitae and appropriate certificate documentation to the President of Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences, Prof. Dr. Brigitte Grass, Universitätsstrasse, Building 23.31/32, 40225 Düsseldorf, Room 02.72, by 2nd October 2009.

Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences is particularly keen to sponsor female students on MINT courses (mathematic, engineering, natural and technical sciences) in the Winter semester 2009/2010.

The decision is likely to be taken by mid-October and the grant will be paid retrospectively to 1st October 2009.
