Peter-Michael Engel Foundation awards scholarships to D UAS students

(sf) Four students on masters courses at Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences received a special gift just in time for Christmas: The Peter-Michael Engel-Foundation Düsseldorf decided to award scholarships to Aleksandra Dubovikova, Ola Kilber, Florentine Struß and Alexander Schepp for their outstanding bachelor works, optimum study time commitment towards the community. Aleksandra, Ola and Florentine study architecture at the Peter Behrens School of Architecture (PBSA) of Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences. Alexander studies on the "Virtual Reality" masters course at the Faculty of Media.

In practice, this means that the Peter-Michael Engel Foundation will sponsor outstanding master students at the university by awarding scholarships each worth 4000 Euro per annum for two years. The four selected candidates will therefore receive 333 Euro per month, retrospectively from 1st October 2009, thus the start of the Winter semester. The Düsseldorf Foundation additionally awards the Peter-Michael Engel sponsorship prize each year worth 10,000 Euro for outstanding research work.

"We want the sponsorship programme to create an incentive for students to come to Düsseldorf. The city is not only attractive and lively, but is also a university city at the same time. We particularly want to support Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences and its students with regard to their application-oriented approach and their local integration", said the chairman of the foundation, Peter-Michael Engel.

"We do everything within our power to obtain additional funds for our students, that's why we are delighted with the foundation", declared the President, Prof. Dr. Brigitte Grass. She believed that the sponsorship reflected the linkage with the city and region and at the same time was a recognition of the quality of research and teaching at Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences. A ceremony to handover the scholarships is planned for February 2010.
